Promoting Environmental Consciousness in School @ Van Mahotsava
“If you cut trees you cut life, If you plant trees you plant lives”
Van Mahotsav is an annual tree planting festival celebrated throughout India to honor and pay respect to the mighty creators and the lungs of Mother Earth.
To instill a sense of environmental responsibility and promote a greener future among our students, My Public School, CBSE observed Van Mahotsav week in the month of July 2023 under the aegis of Eco and Health Club ‘Sansadhan’ to encourage students to support the conservation of trees as they help fight the ongoing climate crisis. It was celebrated in the first week of July as this coincides with the onset of the monsoon, so varied activities were carried out over the course of a week to promote environmental consciousness and sustainable practices.
No to Plastic Bags:
To kick start the week-long celebration, a “No to Plastic Bags” campaign was initiated where students were encouraged to bring bags made out of the waste product or cloth bag. And our artists renovated old items and made them into something new.
Plantation Drive:
The cornerstone of the Van Mahotsava celebration was a largescale tree plantation drive where students participated in a plantation drive by bringing saplings planted on a cemented planter’s. The students actively participated in planting saplings which were also the part of their holidays homework.
Cultural programme :A short skit to educate the students about environmental conservation. was organised by students of Grade VIII highlighting the consequences of deforestation and the significance of conserving forests. The skit focused on raising awareness about the need for afforestation and the roles individuals can play in protecting the environment.
Green Crusaders on a Green Walk
To culminate the week-long celebration, a “Green Walk” was organized as part of a school rally. Students, accompanied by Principal ma’am, teachers and staff, marched through the nearby community, spreading awareness about environmental issues and the significance of tree plantation. They carried placards, banners, and saplings to raise awareness among the local residents.
Principal Ms. Sangeeta Rekhi appreciated the efforts put in by the Green Saviours and the guiding mentors. She has been the backbone of most of the above mentioned activities and is constantly on the lookout for innovative and exciting new trends to take My Public School to the top. She motivated students and reminded them of the fineness and superiority of trees while making the implications of our inherited assets and that without us trees cannot adjust or survive.
In the end the Van Mahotsava celebration in our school was a resounding success in creating awareness and promoting sustainable practices among the students and the wider school community. Through various activities like the “No to Plastic Bags” campaign, eco-friendly product , planting planters, skit performance, and the display of posters and ply cards, students were actively engaged in understanding and advocating for environmental conservation. The “Green Walk” served as a
powerful culmination, emphasizing the collective effort towards a greener future. Such initiatives play a significant role in shaping environmentally conscious individuals and fostering a sense of responsibility towards nature. The event also fostered a sense of responsibility and instilled a deep appreciation for the importance of trees and forests. By organizing such initiatives, our school continues to contribute towards a greener and sustainable future.
