Earth Day is observed annually to raise awareness and encourage citizens to make the planet a better place every day.
Few Indian Government Schemes to Preserve Environment:
Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for Afforestation– Set up jointly by NTPC and other Central Power Sector Undertakings as a Registered Society to take up afforestation and environmental measures to reduce the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
– Aimed at undertaking fruitful channelising of investments by members to increase the national forest cover
Namami Gange Programme– Launched in 2014, Namami Gange Programme is an Integrated Conservation Mission which aims at conserving and rejuvenating the river Ganga.
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan– Launched on October 2, 2014, on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan aims to eradicate open defecation and improve solid management.
Mission LiFE movement (Lifestyle for the Environment)– It is a global mass movement for nudging individual and collective action to protect and preserve the environment.
